eleMENTALISM.

Australia

I need to write something about my time here. Otherwise what was it all for? I can't lie, I experienced some shame in deciding to come here last year, because it's racist, and sexist and behind the rest of the world in most things, literally and politically. (I think?) Actually not literally, it's technically 10-12 hours AHEAD of the UK (as the pinnacle of my world, and thus, the world), but those 12 hours aren't making up for the fact that it's a young country with a recent history (and present) of colonialism and savagery. As a Brit, I should feel guilty for my inherited blame, and I do, oh I do. Anyway, here I am. How have I found it? Well, actually very good. People are incredibly friendly, there's a lot of money and ideologies floating around in the wide open, and people seem hopeful, and safe. And they look good most of the time. Some do look like the people in Muriel's Wedding, but then Britain is 70% waynetta slobs, so there's no criticism there.

Organise thoughts. Quality of life - good. good food, good weather, employment, cycling, arts funding, arts 'striving', good.
Opportunities - good, people welcoming, arts 'initiatives' everywhere, people doing interesting things - mostly, but need to find out more, am a curator/arts dealer/arts elementalist

ARTS ELEMENTALIST

arts elementalism

Anyway, yes, so it's an interesting place for being so young, and full of potential. What DEFINES Australians, for the rest of the world it's this perceived idea of a lack of 'culture' but that is preposterous, and unfair, australia has magpied it's culture from the US, the UK and ASIA, and I like the influences of all those places. I like mountain dew, I speak english and am from the 'motherland' (so enjoy some faux importance, it's weird), and I LURVE asian food, so actually, none of this is a problem for me.

Aboriginal art in art galleries. Like the MCA. Interesting. need to look that up.

So many places to go in Australia, maybe that's what i'm saving for. A travel around in July/August.
