walk on by

Energy from helping yourself ultimately helps others. Is that the case for capitalism? No. Helping yourself ultimately fucks others over, as a rigid class system of needing and wanting at any expense creates a production line where noone has anyones interests except their own to think about, from the exhausted, wrangled production line worker, to the passive, well fed, blinking consumer. We know not what we do, but we have to do it anyway, as the alternative is too harrowing. Relatively. My priviledge to be able to step outside, into a bougeois squat situation where I can feel supported, and have my middle class job, and eat well, and sleep well, and sex well. Do I have anyone else in mind when I have been seeking out these things? The public art institution, yes – because I think the most art for the most people, but does it just maintain a structure, yes, probably, but might it inspire some people to be expressive – or does it just reinforce class difference and privilege, maybe.

Is street art really the only political solution to art for everyone? No, I think people can make art under the right conditions out of anything – I think the Ivy from the building could be used to make effigies of the developers, I think that the Southwark Council boards could be used to point out all of the lies and the empty promises and development speak.

(that artist that makes work about this thing, it’s cynical, but does all it do placate the guilty, educated middle classes who just lie down when they know that all this development is happening and is going to happen, because they think radical politics is akin to fundementalism, and ultimately martyrdom for no good reason, i.e- moronic. Toleration and self involved self gain is the only way forward..) Well I tried that and it was sucky, and lonely, and boring.

Working class struggle is one thing, I am spawn of aspiring middle class and my parents’ desperation and lack of ease with themselves has led to my own self loathing and insecurity with my place in the world and value.

I am fighting this fight for them, I am questioning authority in a way that they didn’t feel they could, I am living my life how I want to because I can.

IF SOMETHING IS DIFFICULT TO GET IT MEANS IT IS WORTH GETTING.

Don’t think that we can fight regeneration?
